• young person: we're constantly silenced because of our age, and are at a higher risk for abuse. we are assumed to be horrible people, and when a single member of our age category fucks up, it is attributed to all of us. we aren't allowed to choose what happens to our own bodies. in many countries it is legal for our parents to hurt us physically, and it is illegal for us to defend ourselves against them. our problems and emotions are written off as "teen angst" or "tantrums" and this can make it nearly impossible for us to get support. practically every aspect of our existence is put into a double bind. we're expected and encouraged to be depressed and even suicidal, and no one thinks there's something wrong with this.
  • adult: adult privilege doesn't exist because i had to work an extra shift this week.
